Needs Group

The parochial church council of Heytesbury Church (St Peter and St Paul) are thinking about making some major new changes to help secure its future and make it more enjoyable for more people. The project will seek to create facilities such as toilets and catering, improve heating and provide meeting spaces which are modern and comfortable for community use.

The recent Needs Survey results will, hopefully, show what are the needs of the church and the community. The resultant Statement of Needs will become a strong element of the proposed bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund for money. At the meeting with the Diocesan Advisory Group on Thursday 10th March 2016 it was stressed that there is no intention to provide a Village Hall but, rather, to provide space for activities which would include the school, the congregation and the whole community.

The Needs Survey is to be used in the Presentation document that is being submitted to the Heritage Lottery Fund in November 2017.

Initial results from the Needs Survey were encouraging. There were 97 returns, either in paper form or online, which represents a 28% return from 350 households in the Heytesbury, Knook and Tytherington area. A high number of people felt that the Church is important in terms of heritage, services and community involvement and there was a variety of potential activities suggested that could take place within the Church.
However most respondents were in the older age range and the Needs Group are now going to try and obtain survey results from a younger age group. Rev'd Ali Morley has distributed information at Heytesbury School to encourage responses from parents, friends and staff.

A more detailed analysis will then become the basis for the Statement of Needs.

Rev'd Ali Morley had clarified with the Archdeacon that we can apply for removal of up to 5 rows of pews on each side of the nave. An Application for the Temporary removal of some pews was drafted and approved by the Parochial Parish Council. The licence has now been granted.
